Biography
Elizabeth's Bio
What is New?

Elizabeth Marlowe has been called a lot of things in her career, but "typical" is not one of them. Her professional life is a dichotomy - as an entertainment lawyer and songwriter, she is attorney and client in one neat package. A graduate of the University of Georgia School of Law, Elizabeth started her legal career more than a decade ago. She hails from Athens, Georgia, the birthplace of modern college rock. Elizabeth's clients include major-label recording artists and independent musicians, record labels, actors, music publishers, and of course, songwriters!

Elizabeth was born in New York City, and grew up in suburban New York and South Florida. Her father Sy Marlowe was a jazz trumpet player who toured with Harry James and the Dorsey Orchestra as a young man. While her father had stopped playing professionally by the time she was born, Elizabeth grew up with a backdrop of the ever-present swing and jazz music that filled the house. She began playing drums at the age of 9, but her parents soon pleaded with her to switch to the guitar.

Elizabeth started writing songs as a child and began writing seriously in the early 90's. Until recently, her ability to pitch and promote her own material was limited by her efforts to further the careers of her paying clients. But because of her love of the craft of songwriting, she decided to step into the batter's box on her own behalf.  She is focused on co-writing with artists and staff writers like Americana artist Jabe Beyer, Curb staff writer Jeff Ross, and many others. Elizabeth performs with these co-writers and others at various writers nights from the Bluebird to the Swallow at the Hollow.

In 2004, Elizabeth's publishing deal came to an end and she is now looking for a new home for her catalog.

In 2004, Elizabeth got her first cut. "69 Beetle", which she co-wrote with hit writer James Dean Hicks ("Jesus and Mama," "Heaven Help Me"), and EMI staff writer Cliff Cody.  "Beetle" was cut by Bo Billy on his debut CD on Destiny Row Records. It was released as a single to Irish radio.

Elizabeth has also won awards in the CMT/NSAI Song Competition, the West Coast Songwriters' Association Song Contest, and the Georgia Music Industry Association Song Competition. In 2001, she was accepted into the coveted and highly competitive ASCAP Country Writer's Workshop Series in Nashville.

Since the fall of 2002, Elizabeth has served as the Regional Workshop Coordinator for NSAI - Atlanta North.  She has also lectured at many songwriting workshops and music industry seminars over the years, including those sponsored by NSAI, Georgia Music Industry Association, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, the Georgia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia. Subjects she has presented range from copyright issues to publishing to songwriting basics. She is a member of those organizations, as well as having served on the Executive Board of the Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia.

Elizabeth lives outside of Athens, Georgia with her son Jackson and their dogs Penny, Butch and Piglet. They are packing up the hippie wagon and moving to Bellevue this summer!
